CEPEM was established in response to a call from Hamilton Health Sciences due to the anticipated supply chain breakdown in March 2020 caused by COVID-19. CEPEM focuses on the research and development of the next generation of personal protective equipment, nonwovens, and textiles by developing new sustainable materials, developing functional materials, developing advanced manufacturing methods, and developing test methods and standards. The objective of the Centre is to serve as the nucleus of research and development activities in nonwovens and textiles within Canada and assist the needs of Canadian companies, both existing and new so that they can develop the next generation materials and products to become global leaders in the future. Our goal includes developing a world-leading advanced infrastructure and equipment platform, developing an educational training program for high-quality personnel, and bringing together various stakeholders from academia, industry, and government.

We work with Canada’s PPE manufacturing core to recycle their scraps and rejects so it can be turned back into quality Canadian made PP non woven fabrics.
