The cluster of excellence in technical textile materials, TechniTextile Québec, is an initiative of the ACCORD approach of the Québec Ministry of Economy and Innovation (MEI). The hub lead innovative and collaborative projects and brings together all the industrial, technical, scientific and governmental stakeholders involved in the sector.TechniTextile also promotes the sector's expertise to national and international buyers in order to foster the sustainable development of the technical and value-added textile industry.
Founded in 1967, Texel launched its manufacturing activities in Canada by producing blankets for beds. Then two years later, the company extended its activities into the manufacturing of felts, notably for the footwear industry, and quickly acquired a large market share in this sector. In 1975, Texel became the first Canadian manufacturer of geotextile. Today, Texel serves various industries and markets with high-quality needlepunched nonwovens.
